How to Draw Intermission: June 2024
My trip to Singapore! (Semi-)Weekly comics! Plus: My upcoming FREE comics workshop!
Howdy, friend.
Oofta! As I’m writing this, I’ve been back from Singapore for *checks watch* five days and the jet lag still has a stranglehold on me. So, no full newsletter this month as I catch up on life. Instead, I wanted to share a few things I’ve been working on! ♡
If this is your first time visiting How to Draw, a hearty welcome. You can check out our archive of posts here. And if you haven’t already, please consider subscribing so you don’t miss a thing.
Happy hammock season to you and yours! ♡

First: In an attempt to live a more analog life, I’m trying to get off my phone more and rely on it less. So, I bought a new camera, a hobby I was really into when I was younger. Singapore was the first chance I had to play with it. I took daily walks into quieter parts of town, wanting to capture moments away from the tourists, away from the sorts of things you could Google about. I wanted to share a few here because (1) I love how these compositions turned out and (2) I had so much fun putting inspired color palettes.
Next: Over on Instagram, I’ve been posting weekly-ish comics as a way to do something just for myself outside of my upcoming graphic memoir, HARD BODY. My goal is to keep going with these for as long as I can. Here’s where I’m at so far:
Finally: I’ll be teaching a FREE ONLINE comics workshop with the Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW) on Friday, June 28 at 7:00 PM EST! For my workshop, we’ll discuss drawing oneself as a bird, figuring out which represents us best, and discussing why it’s so much easier (and cathartic) to draw ourselves as non-human. There will be time for folks to share their creations in the second half of the workshop, which is always a blast.
This workshop is open to ANYONE, regardless of their age or level of experience. These workshops are family-friendly, welcoming, and inclusive of all experiences and identities. You can find a sampling of past workshop videos here.
